Here are a few short stories of the comings and going’s and happenings in Malaysia.

Giant lizard

I went on a run with Ella. It was raining. Kind of dumping actually. But this town is built for the rain, it has giant concrete ditches on the sides of the road for all of the water run off. We were running along a ditch when Ella stopped and pointed at something. “A lizard” she said. I pictured a little normal looking lizard. I wish you could have heard me scream when I looked over the edge and a lizard the size of a footstool ran past.

Meeting Sondra + a rainbow

We went on a hike one weekend. When we got to the trailhead it was dumping buckets, this seems to be a theme. But no rain is gonna stop us. So we got going. I actually do love the rain so much! Especially the warm tropical rain. It smells good and it makes me feel fresh. Even so, we prayed that at the top the sun would come out. We asked for a rainbow and a beautiful view.

Half way up, although we thought we were almost there, there was a little Hindu shrine and at the shrine was a man. Some people stopped to chat with him, I didn’t want to, I was determined to get to the top of the hill, but a little voice inside of my gut said to stay back and talk to this guy.

I am so glad I did! His name is Sondra, he’s a teacher and about to retire. He was so kind and friendly and he invited us to come to his school to meet the kids there. Later on, Emily and I met him again for mint tea and curry puffs where we had a great conversation with him and got to know him more.

We parted ways and a while longer later found the top of the hike. The rest of our team had already gone back down, but as we walked onto the top of the hill the rain stopped and the sun came out. And guess what!? There was a full rainbow across the whole valley. If that is not a wink from God I don’t know what is.

I got sick

The evening after the hike I started feeling very warm. Which for Malaysia is normal. However I was feeling warmer than the normal amount of warm. I had a fever and the next day I had a stomach bug. Ugh. Only having fried eggs and chicken to eat doesn’t really help with stomach bugs so I got some crackers. I was in and out of ministry for the week and eventually went to the doctor who fixed me up in no time.

Praise God for Doctors!

Georgetown

For Easter weekend we went out to the ocean in Georgetown to rest. We got sunburnt on the beach and ate Mexican food and laughed and swam in the ocean and made pancakes for breakfast and got dressed up all cute and watched the sunset. It’s nice to have a girls weekend sometimes.

More importantly though we got to celebrated the day that Jesus paid the price so that we can know him personally and be blameless before him. That is an occasion that calls for pancakes and joy and laughter and tears and loving each other well.
Praise Jesus!

Love, Rosella
