One quick month in South Africa and we are already off to Swaziland!
During this last week of ministry we visited children’s homes, cleaned out a storage room and organized a library amidst the laughter and hugs of many joyful children. These things we have been doing here have been filling for the soul and all around lovely. Even so I have to remind myself that it is not about what we do or how much we get done, it is about how we love people along the way.
1 Corinthians 3 says:
“If I give all I possess to the poor and give my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
So in doing these things we get to demonstrate our love for the people here. Jesus served people, he healed them, washed their feet and ministered to them. He went as far as to literally die for each and everyone of us, paying for our sins so that we can have relationship with God, but if he had done any of those things without love, it would be worth nothing. We get to follow His perfect example and love others in everything we do.
Funny story of the week: While we were at the children’s home, I came back into the main room for my lunch break and there was a monkey holding a handful of my chips from my bag. I didn’t like those chips anyways, so I let him keep them.
This week has been one of those weeks where I keep misplacing things and walking into a room just to forget what I was doing there in the first place. The other day I went into the kitchen to get an onion and next thing I knew I was standing there holding two jars of peanut butter. Funny how the brain goes on autopilot like that. That’s life for you though, it’s good to be able to laugh at yourself every now and then.
On a more serious note, I will be sad to leave South Africa behind, although I look forward to what lies ahead. We are taking vans to Nsoko, Eswatini on Sunday. Moving there means that we are moving out of cell reception. We will be there for about 2 months, so I will be falling off the grid for that time. I’m excited to see how God moves during this upcoming time in another country. Until later!
Love, Rosella
It sounds like a great time in SA, thanks for the updates.
